Sinbad, the sailor from Basra, was neither a great general nor a brave warrior. However, this adventurer was not afraid of anything, as can be read in the stories dedicated to him in the book One Thousand and One Nights.
Returning from his picaresque adventures, he loved to surround himself with his dearest friends.
After humbly washing their hands with rose essence and orange blossom, he told them, in the smoke of incense, of the unusual encounters he had had in distant lands and described in detail the treasures he had discovered, which had then disappeared forever.
